How We See It
Families are the core unit of society. When we are born, our parents take care of us. When our parents grow old, we take care of them.
Caregiving for a family member is a common stage of life for many people, still it seems the issue of family caregivers often fade into the background.
The fact of the matter is family caregivers make the world go ‘round. There are approximately 53 million caregivers have provided unpaid care to an adult or child in the last 12 months, which is an increase of almost 10 million in just five years! [National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP. (2020). Caregiving in the U.S.]
The estimated prevalence of family caregiving is 20%. Based on this prevalence rate, there are almost 400,000 family caregivers in the greater Kansas City area. (National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP 2020)
Despite the fact that family caregiving is so prevalent, there is a lack of supports available, for family caregivers, as well as awareness about existing resources.
Caregiver stress an epidemic. Investing in family caregivers and supporting families is a crucial consideration as we look forward to the changing tide of demographics.
As family caregivers ourselves, we know that family caregivers need high quality:
- information and education to navigate their journeys,
- emotional support to cope with the stresses and challenges of caregiving, and.
- Productos y servicios y acceso igual al mercado
