We also know that not every caregiver&#8217;s story is the same. LGBTQIA+ caregivers may face unique challenges that often go unseen or unspoken\u2014and we believe those experiences deserve to be recognized, understood, and supported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Unseen Work of LGBTQIA+ Caregivers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many LGBTQIA+ caregivers provide care for aging parents, partners, friends, or chosen family members, sometimes all at once! But because caregiving in the LGBTQIA+ community often doesn\u2019t follow traditional models of family, it can be overlooked by healthcare providers, policy makers, and even other support systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some common challenges LGBTQIA+ caregivers may face include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Lack of legal recognition<\/strong> for relationships, especially when caring for a partner or chosen family member.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Isolation or stigma<\/strong> within their families of origin or communities, which can make caregiving even more emotionally complex.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Discrimination in medical or care settings<\/strong>, where LGBTQIA+ identities may not be respected or affirmed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Limited access to LGBTQIA+-friendly services and support<\/strong>, particularly in rural or underserved areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These barriers can lead to added stress, burnout, and a feeling of invisibility&#8230; all while caregivers are doing the essential work of supporting someone they love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Affirming and Supporting All Caregivers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Sandwiched, we believe that every caregiver deserves to feel seen, valued, and supported.
